Can you have 3 cancers at once?
Unfortunately a person can be diagnosed with two different types of primary cancer. This might be at different times in their life, or more unusually at the same time.
What is the word for recurrent cancer?
Regional recurrence means that the tumor has grown into lymph nodes or tissues near the original cancer. Distant recurrence means the cancer has spread to organs or tissues far from the original cancer. When cancer spreads to a distant place in the body, it is called metastasis or metastatic cancer.
What is it called when cancer cells multiply?
This process is called metastasis. Cancer cells can metastasize when they break away from the tumour and travel to a new location in the body through the blood or lymphatic system.

The incidence of multiple primaries in a cancer population varies between 2.4% and 8%, up to 17% within 20 years of follow-up (table 2).
Can leukemia lead to other cancers?
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) can become resistant to treatment and progress to more advanced phases. But sometimes people with CML or develop a new, unrelated cancer later. This is called a second cancer. No matter what type of cancer you have or had, it’s still possible to get another (new) cancer.

Neurofibromatosis is a rare inherited disorder that results in benign tumors of the nerves and other parts of the body. Symptoms of this disease range from being virtually unnoticeable to causing neurologic problems or bone defects that affect the skull and spine.
Which cancer has highest recurrence rate?
Some cancers are difficult to treat and have high rates of recurrence. Glioblastoma, for example, recurs in nearly all patients, despite treatment. The rate of recurrence among patients with ovarian cancer is also high at 85%.

What type of breast cancer is most likely to recur?
Among patients who were recurrence-free when they stopped endocrine therapy after five years, the highest risk of recurrence was for those with originally large tumors and cancer that had spread to four or more lymph nodes. These women had a 40 percent risk of a distant cancer recurrence over the next 15 years.
Why does colon cancer keep coming back?
Recurrent colorectal cancer usually comes back after being gone for at least a year. When it’s just an advanced version of the original cancer, it may show up in a few months. In that situation, the cancer often returns because the first round of treatment didn’t get rid of all the cancer cells.
